Charles “Charlie” Clinesmith, age 77, of Hugoton, Kansas, died on Friday, September 3, 2021, at his home in Hugoton. He was born September 29, 1943, in Elkhart, Kansas, the seventh child of Howard and Leone (Ipson) Clinesmith. 

Charles grew up in Rolla with the “herd of Clinesmith’s”, where he and his siblings attended Rolla public schools. Charles graduated Rolla High School. Charles entered the United States Army in 1966 and served in Germany until his honorable discharge. Charles returned to Rolla where he met Carolyn J. Barnard. Charles married Carolyn and gained a daughter, Deb, on May 24, 1968. Charles retired from Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co. after many years and then enjoyed working for F&O Roustabouts and Hoskinson Sales & Service. Charles was a cowboy and enjoyed roping.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Deb Munkres of Hugoton, KS; grandson, Jeremy Johnson and his children, Amya Johnson and Danielle Johnson all of Hugoton, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Cyla Collins and Steven Collins; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ester Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother, Raymond “Pete” Clinesmith of Ulysses, Kansas; and many more relatives and friends.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Leone; his wife, Carolyn; siblings, Harold, Phyllis, Weldon, Norma, Jimmie, Bobby and Margaret.

Funeral service will be Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla with Pastor Wes Young officiating with interment and Military Graveside Rites by the Kansas Army National Guard Military Funeral Honor Guard and the American Legion 8th District Honor Guard following at Rolla Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. Memorial contributions may be given to the Dust Bowl Riders in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, Kansas 67951. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
