The National Santa Fe Trail Organization held their annual meeting in Ulysses last Weekend. The group enjoyed a dinner on Saturday, April 21 at the Wagon Bed Springs Historical marker south of Ulysses.

Kristen Koehn, US Navy Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class E4, will report for duty aboard the USS George Washington May 7, 2002. She is a 2000 graduate of Ulysses High School.

Grant County Feeders took home first place as the best booth at Spring Fling X. They have won the coveted award several times.

Brenda Rexroat of Ulysses placed first in Junior Girls Singles in the 1982 State Junior Bowling Tournament. Others who placed in their respective classes were: Erin Ochs, 3rd; Barry Ungles, 4th; Laura LaFever, 6th and Penny Trevino, 9th.

Four more teachers tendered their resignations to the school board which makes a total of eight received thus far. The latest resignations came from Evelyn Burton, 5th grade band; Sharon Nagel, elementary vocal; Jill Joyce, junior high art; and Mildred Ottinger, 5th grade at Hickok School.

Patrons on rural routes one and three out of Ulysses will have new mail carriers effective May 1st, according to Postmaster Julian Forrer. Ray Fogleman will take over route three and James Randle will take route one.

The Girl Scout Council met at the Auxiliary room on Monday night, April 28. A letter was read from the national organization stating the actual time for registering a troop. The scouts have been asked to sell poppies for Poppy Day.

At Commencement last Week, Eileen Cantrell was named Valedictorian and Reece Hampton, Salutatorian. Ruthe Hampton and Lois Cook were honored for high scholastic achievement during the four years. Citizenship awards went to Ruthe Hampton and Dell Wesley.

The local Civics Club has undertaken the task of having the cemetery landscaped and trees planted. This will make it a very beautiful place. The club is to be commended for this undertaking.

(Week of April 29, 1922)

People around here are still repairing windmills that were torn up in the storm of April 10. We have begun to think we are going to have winter instead of summer. Well, this snow would look good to some of us along about July.
