Krista Anderson received a service awardfrom the Kansas Recreation and Park Association in honor of her Silver Anniversary of working to provide the community with access to the local gym - the "tiger pit".

Ulysses High School had their homecoming celebration. Members of the homecoming court were: Brandon Prusa, Alisha Fagala, Sean Deeds, Hatomi Greene, Sherman Steel, Amanda King, James Findley, Brittany Seger, Mercedes Lewis, Steve Franco and Tony Lewis. King was Jesse Humphreys and Queen was Kristen Nerheim.

The USD214 Board met to raise questions about the possibility of playing the National Anthem for the girls' games on occasion or perhaps having the audience recite the Pledge of Allegianceas an alternative.

Shirley Wilson, a primary teacher at Sullivan Elementary School, was nominated for Kansas Master Teacher of the Year.

Floyd V. Pinnick received the top award given annually by the Southwest Kansas Irrigation Association . Pinnick received a plaque commemorating  his support for agriculture, and was praised for his active work for the Bonanza Club through the years.

Tarbet Construction company of Ulysses was the low and successful bidder at $36,138.96 for curb and gutter construction on about 40 blocks in the newly built-up northwest part of Ulysses.

Flying is a booming industry in Ulysses. There arenow 25 planes based at the Ulysses airport, including five that are kept on farms in the community. There were only five planes here two and a half years ago. Eleven new pilots have received their licenses and a class of 14 is under way now.

Point rationing registration will be in Grant County in the courthouse in Ulysses on February 24, 25, 26 and 27. This was to be the only point of registration in the county. Registrants must bring with them Ration Book No. 1 and a consumer declaration form - filled out..

A.B. Coder purchased a Pathe phonograph of Mrs. Merl Rosel the first of the week.

Fred Williams and relative were out from Kinsley a few days ago looking after business interests.

Dr. Miller reports the arrival of a baby girl on February 12, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Mustoe.

The show given on Monday evening by the Legion boys was a good one and was enjoyed by a large number of people. All who saw it and speak well of it.

There will be a pie supper, February 23 in District 10. Ten miles straight south and two west Ulysses. Prize for prettiest girl. Everyone invited.
