Jackie McBride, Field Administrator for Ulysses ExxonMobil, presented Grant County Library Curator Francis Roberts with a $1,000 grant. The grant was from ExxonMobil Foundation to Friends of the Grant County Library Foundation for general operating support.

LaVonne Michael, Grant County Senior Citizens Director, was named the 1983 Citizen of the Year for Grant County. Pamela Sue Anderson, second grade teacher at Hickok Elementary was named Outstanding Young Educator; Richard Langdon,Ulysses Police Officer, was named Outstanding Young Public Defender.

Construction was expected to begin in July on the $500,000 new Grant County State Bank building, which was to occupy the area north of the post office and south of Central Avenue, back to Baughman Street.

Jay Baugh, editor emeritus of the Ulysses News and the Johnson Pioneer died in his home after putting in a full day's work as usual on Monday. Baugh was editor for 50 years.

K. Akagi was named the 1962 grain sorghum champion of Grant County, leading all contestants in the most abundant year of the 18-year recordof the Grant County 100-bushel Milo Club.

The Riverside Rural P.T.A. held their first meeting on January 25, 1933. This is the first rural P.T.A., to be organized in Grant County. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Ralph Tuttle; Vice President, John H. Lewis; Secretary-Treasurer, Miss Ione Coerber; Chairman of Publicity Committee, Mrs. John H. Lewis; General Committee, Mrs. J.H. Lewis, Mrs. Charley Hazel, and M.W. Alexander.

J.H. Lee, the leading citizen of Ryus, was in Ulysses yesterday trading.

A baby girl weighing three and one half pounds, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Corley, at Garden City on January 25. It is said the young lady can rest very comfortably in a common shoe box.
