Week of January 27, 1972 — The new building for Jaynelle's Flowers & Gifts is nearing completion. Don Eddie is the contractor for the addition on the west of Phillips Mortuary which should be finished in 30 days.

Catherine Moyer of Ulysses has been named the new CEO and General Manager at Pioneer Communications. She succeeds Richard Veach, who retired at the end of 2011 after 25 years of service.

McDonald’s ad featured nightly specials from 4:00 to 7:30 each evening. Sunday had hamburgers for 39 cents and cheeseburgers for 49 cents; Monday’s special was all you can eat hot cakes for 99 cents; and Tuesday featured all Happy Meals for 99 cents. The prices were good for inside dining only.

Gary and Maureen Meierhoff announced the arrival of their daughter, Janni Elissa. She was born January 5th at the Stanton County Hospital. She weighed six pounds, eight ounces and was 20 inches long.

The new Senior Citizens Center in Ulysses was full to overflowing during the open house and ribbon cutting held there Sunday afternoon. LaVonne Michael, director of the Grant County Council on Aging, estimated 100 people were present despite the bitterly cold weather.

Remodeling is taking place in the court room of the Grant County Court House. The ceiling is being lowered nine feet to provide better acoustics in the court room. Dick Haefele is the contractor for the remodeling job.

The Ulysses Tigers basketball team moved up to second place behind Colby in the state Class A ratings of the Topeka Journal and jumped from eighth to fourth in the ratings of the Wichita Eagle. The Tigers currently have an undefeated record with six wins.

(Week of January 24, 1952)

100 persons enjoyed a successful box supper sponsored by the Grant County 4-H clubs on January 16th. Will R. Christian auctioned off the boxes, which brought $131.25. Half of the proceeds went to the 4-H council with the other half divided among the clubs based on their representation at the box supper.

The building at the rear of the Binney Grocery lot was moved this Week to the Jim McGillivray farm. It’s moving caused a lot of excitement on Tuesday afternoon.

The advanced pupils at Warrendale School have chosen sides are competing for prizes in an art work contest. Lucille Carlile, Junior Meyer, Craig and Shirley Howard are on one side; with Freida Carlile, Avanelle Shuss, Luella Simmons an Arline Meyer as their competitors.

Miss Bessie Lewis and Miss Virgil Gordon attended the Grand Masked Ball which was held in Ulysses on New Year’s Eve.
