Scott Nichols is the new Director of Services for the Grant County Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Ulysses High School, Barton County Community College and the University of Kansas. Nichols will assume his duties on April 2, 2002.

Students from ten Kansas high schools will be honored on April 1 by the University of Kansas as Kansas Honor Students. Local honor students are: Jed Archuleta, Matthew Brom, Heather Cheek, Heather Kincaid, Margaret McKown, Brenton Norton, Kent Waldron, Mitzi Walker and Jola Persinger.

The 4-H carnival is coming up soon. It will be held at Walker Auditorium in the civic center from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Saturday, March 27th. There will be many booths and activities available including: jungle walk, basketball throw, ring toss and bingo.

It was a son for Mr. and Mrs. Orval Eugene Spencer, born March 14th at the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. Heweighed seven pounds and four ounces and his name is Christopher Shaun Spencer.

(Week of March 22, 1962)

Bill Gettler, a Tiger basketball star for three seasons, was named on the first team AA-State high school squad by the Wichita Eagle. The 5’-11” senior had a scoring average of 14.7 points per game. According to Coach Gerald Raines, Gettler’s ball handling skills were even more important in the Tiger’s success this season.

Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bonsall and Berna Dean and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bonsall attended the birthday dinner honoring Mr. Lee Rhiness on his 87th birthday in Liberal. 108 relatives and friends were present for the celebration including nine great-grandchildren.

Good Luck 4-H Club met at the home of RoAnn Maxwell for the March meeting. Nine members and two guests were present. The club voted in Laura Lee Steen as a new member. Projects cards were distributed by Mr. J. E. Taylor. The group played the game Dark Horse and enjoyed refreshments.

Mr. Orr, the state auto tag inspector, was in Ulysses last Friday and found several cars without this year’s tag on them. He proceeded to place a tag of his own brand on their windshield.
