There were lots of winners at the cup stacking tournament held at Sullivan School. Those taking home the medals were: Irvin Caro, Bree DeLaO, Dylan Graber, Jessie Watson, Austen Perez, Avery Ysac, Madison Twilleger, Emilee Meier, Alexa Barron, Karis Jones and Eduardo Mendoza.

Jerry Menzie was named Mother of the Year at the 23rd Annual Mother/Daughter Banquet held at the Grant County Senior Center on May 10th. Approximately 200 women attended the Holland-themed banquet served by youth volunteers.

Norman and Diane Blehm were named Big Orange Boosters of the Year at the All-Sports Banquet sponsored by the booster club and local businesses. Pam Meile, President of Big Orange Boosters announced Ron Smith as Coach of the Year and Jed Archuleta and Brandi Lamberson as the outstanding seniors in sports.

Greg Plumlee walked away with the top prize at the State Tennis Tournament held at Towanda. Plumlee took first place by defeating players from KC Sumner, Wellington, Chapman and Columbus.

Officers were elected May 12th at Ulysses High School. Joe Meza was elected president of Student Council with Ric Herod as vice president. Senior class president and vice president are Stuart Jantzen and Gina Loucks. Lu Gindlesberger was elected Junior Class president with Mary Jo Hill as vice president; and the sophomore class elected Mike Jones as president and Dana Cheek as vice president.

Ulysses will send seven entrants to the Southwest Kansas Junior Olympics track and field meet in Dodge City. The event is sponsored by the Grant County Jaycees. Representing Ulysses will be Wayne Akagi, Mike Brewer, Dwayne Davis, Pamela Heyman, Tim Schoonover, Shirley Lowry and John Neal.

(Week of May 22, 1952)

The Ulysses baseball team won its third game in a row bydefeating Leoti 18 to 6. Severt and Tolbert pitched for Ulysses with Worford behind the plate. Severt currently has a .600 batting average, closely followed by R. McGlohon at .571.

Dan Sullivan has been reelected as president of the Kansas Grain and Feed Dealers association. Nearly 400 grain men from around the state gathered for the annual spring meeting in Dodge City.

(Week of May 19, 1932)

Last Monday evening, there was a report that a dead man had been found west of Ulysses and a number of local citizens answer the call ready to assist in the capture of the murderer. However, it developed that the man was really found, but he wasn’t dead. He had just imbibed a little too much corn liquor and was trying to sleep it off!

G. F. McGillivray and E. A. Kepley and their children went fishing Monday but did not have very good success.
