Grant County recognized several employees for their years of service. Awards were given to: Loren Wright, 30 years; Gene Harbour, 25 years; Kenny Hampton, 20 years; Randy McCauley and Lynette Metcalf, 15 years.

(Week of October 10, 2002)

Amber Hampton was presented with $500 in Ulysses Bucks for creating the winner of the Grant County logo contest. Over 40 entries were received. The logo will be used on letterheads, vehicle decals and other official county business.

Justin Burgess is the September Student of the Month at Kepley School. He is the son of Nancy Burgess and the late Dennis Burgess. Justin has one sister, Tia, who is a sixth grader.

It was casino night when the ladies gathered at the local golf course on ladies night. Sandy Carmichael was the winner, followed by Pat Clumsky and Delores Currier.

4-H trip winners were announced at the achievement banquet last Week. Those winners are Annette Hickok, Oralea Moore, Rhonda Patton, Angela Tucker, Theresa Sewell, Jacquetta Harp, Beverlee Deyoe, Herschel Walls, Kirby Brandley and Verlin Shorter.

Grant Countians are on their good behavior, or else they are cautious enough to keep from getting caught, reports the sheriff’s office. The joint city and county jail has been empty for a Week without any guests, according to Undersheriff J. T. Randles.

(Week of October 9, 1952)

The high school band, under the direction of Harold Phillips, presented a colorful half-time spectacle, Hits of Yesterday and Today, at the Ulysses-Lakin game Friday evening. Bright balloons, released by the twirlers, gave color to the ceremony as they floated into the stands on a brisk breeze from the northeast.

(Week of October 15, 1942)

A reward of $5.00 was offered Wednesday by City Marshall Everett Gee for information pertaining to the destruction of the brick fireplace in the city park late Tuesday night. Gee noticed that the fireplace had been destroyed and is of the opinion that prowlers destroyed it after the football game Tuesday night.

(Week of October 13, 1932)

At the last city council meeting, the mayor and councilmen agreed to reduce the minimum charge for water users from $1.50 to $1.00. This should be a help to the users of city water, as during the winter months the minimum amount of water used seldom exceeds 2,o00 gallons per month, so the reduction as agreed on will help considerably.

The first frost of the season was seen on Sunday and Monday mornings. Gardens show the effects of it more than the field crops.
