Dr. Ted Maple was recognized and awarded Dentist of the Year for the Central District Dental Society at an event held October 5th and 6th at the Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City.

Strider Steele, son of Keith and Linda Steele of Ulysses, is a member of the 2002-2003 Kansas State University Marching Band - The Pride of Wildcat Land. Steele plays sousaphone and is an assistant section leader. More than 274 students are part of the band.

Ulysses Varsity girls took first place with 36 points at the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country meet on October 15th. Skyler Faulkner and Tara Frey earned All-WAC honors. Other team members are Kim Grice, Xochitl Soldevilla, Jandi Bacon, Januea Howell and Tammy Chase.

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship invites people of all ages to a haunted house on October 28, 30 and 31 starting each evening at 7:00 p.m. It will be located east of the Methodist church. Admission will be $1.00 for adults and 75¢ for children under 14.

Gladys Gish has been named BPW Woman of the Year. Gladys and her husband, Roy own and operate Gish Sporting Goods. The Business and Professional Women’s Club names a local member for the honor each year. Mrs. Gish has been active in BPW for 15 years.

Roy Bessire moved his Ulysses Hardware store, or most of it, last Saturday and opened Monday in his newly remodeled and redecorated building on the east side of Main Street. The moving will continue for a Week or so. Bessire will have a formal opening later.

On the big screen at Crocker Theatre for seven big days through October 20th is “The Greatest Show on Earth,” starring Betty Hutton and Cornel Wilde. Admission is 75¢ for adults and 25¢ for children.

Two Grant County men are participating in the Men’s Glee Club at Kansas State College in Manhattan. Vernon Neff and Harold Neff are members of the 43 man group. The department of music will be performing “The Messiah” on December 13th under the direction of Professor William Lindquist.

(Week of October 20, 1932)

The young married ladies’ Sunday School class of the Methodist Church enjoyed a jolly Halloween party with their husbands on Monday evening in the church parlor. The softly lit rooms were decorated with goblin motifs and spooks. Thirty-eight enjoyed the fellowship.

Judge Vance and stenographer Fleming were here Monday for the regular term of court. One jury case and minor cases were disposed of.
