Cynthia Rae Wittman, age 72, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at her home.  She was born January 28, 1950, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Albert F. and Helen L. (Frederick) Wittman.

Cindy was raised in Russell and graduated from Russell High School.  She continued her education at Ft. Hays State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education; a degree which she used for 40 years.  Cindy taught first grade for one year and then devoted her time and energy into being a librarian.  She began her career in Arlington, Nebraska, then Cozad, Nebraska, Hutchinson and Ulysses, Kansas.  Cindy was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, KNEA and GCTA, and donated her time at Loaves and Fishes.  She also worked part-time at Pioneer Communications and the Grant County Library for many years.  Cindy lived her life for her faith, family, and friends.  She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church.  She was very active in the church and helped wherever she was needed. 

Cindy’s family and friends were everything to her.  Her nephew, nieces, great-nephew and great-nieces were the apple of her eye.  She doted on them constantly.  If you ever met Cindy, you were soon her friend.  She cherished her friends.  They would meet regularly for meals, and she kept in touch with them all.  She will be remembered as a very generous and loving person with a heart of gold.

Cindy is survived by her sister, Jane Vanek of Hays, Kansas; nephew, Justin Vanek and wife Sami of Hays, Kansas; nieces, Jennifer Gronniger and husband Glen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jessica Mobilia and husband Adrian of Frankford, Delaware; great-nephews and great-nieces, Jacob, Gwenyth and Jayce Gronniger, Maci and Miley Vanek, and Reilly Mobilia and a host of friends. 

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Wittman; sister, Karen Sue Wittman; and brother-in-law, James Vanek.

Memorial service will be held Friday, August 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ulysses.  A family inurnment will be held at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Lutheran Church or Loaves and Fishes in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
