Marvin Meile was nominated for a Father's Day story by his granddaughter, Reile Meile. See more fathers in the spotlight in today's edition, pages 11, 15, and 16.
Growing up, I’ve been double blessed—not only with the best Dad, but also with the best Grandpa. My dad, David Meile, was truly the definition of the “Best Dad.” He definitely learned from his own father, Marvin Meile. My dad was the hardest-working man I’ve ever known, and he worked side by side with my grandpa, who is just as dedicated and driven.
I had the privilege of growing up watching these two incredible men serve their farmers, support our community, and most importantly, love and care for our family. When they weren’t working, they were cheering us on in whatever we had going on—from sports games to school events and everything in between.
After losing my dad in 2021, my grandpa became my go-to person. He’s stepped into an even bigger role in my life than just being my grandpa. He has filled a space that no one else could, all while keeping my dad’s memory alive in the most meaningful ways.
At 79 years old, my grandpa still gets up every day to run his business, Marvin’s Farm Equipment, and continues to serve his farmers and his family. Marvin is the kind of man who always puts others before himself. If you run into him at a restaurant, chances are he’s going to try to pick up your ticket—because that’s just who he is. He believes in giving back, especially to the community that has given so much to him and to our family.
I am incredibly blessed to have spent my whole life with my grandpa by my side—and I feel even more blessed knowing he’ll be walking me down the aisle next year when I get married.
