District Court Held In Ulysses

Just Clint Peterson presided over Grant County District Court on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Lisa Duncan appeared for Sentencing. Duncan is convicted of Attempted Obstruction, a level 10 non-person felony. Duncan's criminal history is "E" and she was sentenced to the standard sentence of eight months in the Department of Corrections (DOC) with 20 percent good time credit and post release supervision of 12 months. She was placed on probation with community corrections for 12 months and given 14 days credit for time served. Duncan was ordered to pay court costs and fees.

Violeta Ramirez appeared for Sentencing. Ramirez's hearing could not move forward because County Attorney, Kelly Primer did not send out victim notifications, as required. The defense attorney objected to the continuance requested by the State and Judge Peterson continued the sentencing to March 10 at 9am.

Robert Pauda Jr appeared for a probation revocation hearing. His case was continued to March 10 at 9am.

Barbara Escobedo was to appear for sentencing. Escobedo's case was continued to March 10, 2022, with requirement to prove she was in the hospital instead of at her sentencing hearing.

Emeryk Jaramillo appeared for a status hearing. Jaramillo was picked up on a warrant and has bonded out. Jaramillo tested positive for numerous drugs while on bond. Bond revocation paperwork was not filed but the intent to file by Primer was verbalized. A bond revocation hearing was set for March 3 at 3pm.

Carson King's hearing was continued to March 3 at 3:30pm.

Florentin Pichardo Rios did not appear for his status hearing, as Rios was awaiting a decision from the judge on his appeal. Judge Peterson ruled that there was sufficient evidence to bind Rios over on the Aggravated Burglary charge. Arraignment will take place on March 3 at 3:30pm.

Hector Velasco appeared for his arraignment hearing. Velasco plead not guilty and his trial was set for June 9-10, 2022. Velasco is charged with: Attempted Aggravated Burglary, a level six person felony with a sentencing range of 17-46 months in prison; two charges of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon, a level 7 person felony with a sentencing range of 11-34 months in prison; Aggravated Endangering a Child, a level 9 person felony with a sentencing range of 5-17 months in prison; Misdemeanor Battery, a Class A misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of six months in jail; and Disorderly Conduct, a class C misdemeanor with a maximum of 30 days in jail.

A pre-trial was set in the Velasco case for May 9 at 9:30am.

Jose Gonzalez appeared for Sentencing. Gonzalez is convicted of Possession of Stolen Property, a level 9 non-person felony. Gonzalez was sentenced to the standard sentence of nine months in prison  with 20 percent good time credit and a post release supervision of 12 months. He was ordered to probation with community corrections for 12 months and give 74 days credit for time served. Gonzalez was ordered to pay all court costs and fees.

This case, for Gonzalez, was ordered to run consecutive to his Hamilton County, Kansas case, 2019CR71, as the special rule applies, current crime was committed while on felony probation.

Armando Ramirez's hearing was continued to March 10, 2022
