Evelyn Porter-Wait, 95, of Ulysses, died Wednesday, November 30, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community. She was born July 1, 1927, in Campo, Colo., the daughter of Nathan and Olive Fultz.

Evelyn grew up in Campo and Springfield, Colo.; graduating high school in Springfield.

She married her true love, Hays Porter in 1949. They lived on a farm near Springfield and had two children. Tragically, Hays died in 1957 after eight short years of marriage, leaving Evelyn with a farm to run and two children to raise alone.

Evelyn was a strong woman who faced life’s challenges with courage and was a devoted mother, providing her children with all her love and wisdom of life over the years. She was a true inspiration to her friends and family.

During her time in Springfield, Evelyn worked as a bank teller and after her husband’s death, as an office clerk at the local gas company.

Much later in life Evelyn married Leo Wait; he preceded her in death, and lived in Guymon, Okla. Upon his death, Evelyn returned to work at a tourist information center in Guymon and then retired from the City of Guymon.

After retirement, Evelyn moved to Ulysses, for the most important job of her life – being a grandmother. She was so loving and caring and treasured every moment she spent with her only grandson.

Evelyn also loved being outside working in her yard, as well as doing crossword puzzles and reading. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Storm Porter and wife Marg of Longmont, Colo.; and daughter, Diana Bullock and husband, David, of Ulysses.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Olive Fultz; husbands, Hays Porter and Leo Wait; brothers, Jim and Ralph Fultz; sister, Louise Jaramillo; and grandson, Justin Bullock.

You are Forever our Angel and Eternally in our Hearts.

Family inurment will take place at the Ulysses Cemetery.
