Gail N. Neal, 82, Ulysses, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, Calif.

She was born November 23, 1940, in Ft. Peck, Mont., the daughter of Jesse and Della (Rusten) Stewart.

As Gail’s father joined the Navy, the family relocated to San Diego, Calif., where she grew up with the exception of a two-year Naval transfer to Guam.

She met and subsequently married Theodore “Ted” Neal, a Marine, November 14, 1959, in National City, Calif., at the 32nd Street Naval Station Chapel.

Married military life had her young family living in many places, and upon retirement from the military they settled in Hickok, Kan. As a member of the community for 50-plus years, she cultivated life-long friendships. She loved to paint, cook, sew, cake decorate, crochet, and especially loved spending time with her extended family. She leaves an indelible mark upon the hearts of all who had the honor and privilege of knowing her and certainly those who called her mom, grandma, sissy, auntie, & friend.

Gail is survived by her son, Shaun Neal of Weldon, Calif.; a daughter, Tammy Neal of Orville, Calif.; sister, Jessie Wecker of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Gilbert Stewart of Del Mar, Calif.; grandson, Brady Neal and wife, Jacey, of Hickok; and two great-grandchildren, Lily and Kinsley.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Della Stewart; husband, Ted; and sister, Arlene Nichols.

Graveside service took place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Arrangements were in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
