Katherine Sue Higgs, age 79, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses.  She was born May 5, 1943, in Duncan, Oklahoma, the daughter of Edward William and Rowena Cozette (Hoggatt) Allen.

Sue moved to Ulysses when she was in the fourth grade.  She attended Red Rock School until the eighth grade, Ulysses High School for a short time, and graduated high school in Pampa, Texas.  Sue married Carl Higgs on September 1, 1962, in Ulysses.  She spent many years working beside Carl in their farming operation and raising race horses.  For many years, her family enjoyed the benefits of the big garden she grew.  Sue owned and operated The Paddock Western Store, and worked for Dekalb Seed Company, Dr. Ramchandani’s Medical Clinic, and retired from Sullivan Elevator.  Sue was on a bowling league, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, and the Sac and Fox Nation Tribe of Oklahoma.  A country girl at heart, she enjoyed rides in the country, attending horse races and trips to the casino.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Sherry Annis and husband Beaty of Ulysses; son, Stephen Higgs and wife Bobbi of Ulysses; seven grandchildren, Brynden Annis, Tate Annis and wife Jessica, Cole Higgs and wife Makayla, Cayden Higgs and wife Shirea, Shae Higgs, Steven Leatherman, and Dallas Leatherman; seven great-grandchildren, Bentley Bryndle, Easton, Everleigh, Emerson, Tayton and Wrenlee. 

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Rowena Allen; husband, Carl in 2020; and daughter, Shelley Dawn Higgs.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating.  The service will be live streamed on Garnand Funeral Home face book page.  Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.  Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W.
