Richard H. Coffey

Richard H. Coffey, 82, of Ulysses, died Saturday, May 20, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. 

He was born April 26, 1941, in Dodge City, Kans., the son of Dr. George McDowell and Helen M. (Miller) Coffey.

Richard grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1959.  He continued his education at Dodge City Community College and Ft. Hays State University. 

He married Maxie Ross in Arvada, Colo., on December 28, 1978. 

Richard raised feeder cattle, farmed, and leveled farm ground for irrigation purposes. He also owned Coffey Trading Company which was a commodity trading business.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling.  He loved his time spent with family and especially his grandkids. 

Richard is survived by his wife, Maxie of their home; daughter, Marla Young and husband, Jeff, Pickering, Mo.; sons: Troy Coffey, Springfield, Mo., and Greg Coffey and wife, Julie, Fort Collins, Colo; daughter, Lisa Brewer and husband, John, Nixa, Mo.; step-daughters: Janell Martin, and Gaye Bloesser and husband, Rocky, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers: Roger D. Coffey and wife, Deana, of Lawrence, Kans., and Douglas G. Coffey and wife, Beverly, Waxahachie, Texas; nine grandchildren: Alyssa, Bryce, Jordan, Kyle, Zachary, Riley, Heather, Matthew, and Colin; and three great-grandchildren.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. George M. and Helen Coffey; brother, George M. Coffey, Jr; and sister, Carolyn Coffey.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. 

Inurnment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be given to the Bentwood Golf Course or American Diabetes Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
