UHS Tigers Place 10th At Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic

Ulysses High School wrestling team finished in 10th place with 84 points at the Bob Kuhn Prairie Classic in Hays, Kansas, on January 20 and 21.

Manhattan took first place with a score of 202.5 points, followed by Junction City with 181.5 points, and Great Bend with 176.5 points. Other teams who participated and their scores included: Hays, 109; Salina Central, 108.5; Pratt, 108; Hoisington, 90; Kapaun, 89.5; Buhler, 89.5; Phillipsburg, 76; Goodland, 62.5; Larned, 52; Oakley, 51; Goodard-Eisenhower, 42; Ellis, 41; Trego Community, 41; Hugoton, 37.5; Russell, 34; Holly, 28.5; Haysville Campus, 21; and Ellisworth, 2.

Tigers who participated in the Goodland Tournament and their results were:

Roman Romero, 120, added 11 points to the team’s final tally when he placed sixth in his weight class. Romero received a bye for his first round, and won by fall over on Jace Myers from Hays in the second. In round three, Romero fell by fall over by Carter Krier from Oakley. In round four, Romero fell by decision by Sammy Hershberger from Buhler, and Romero fell by fall over by Isaac Phimvongsa from Salina in the fifth place match.

Jaxsen Salinas, 132, added 14 points to his team’s final tally when he placed fourth in his weight class. Salinas won by fall over on Hayden Kelly from Great Bend in round one, and Salinas won by sudden victory over Octavio Gonzales from Goodland in round two. Salinas fell by decision by Harley Zimmerman from Hays in round three, and won by decision over Abram Owings from Salina Central in round four.

Braysen Salinas, 138, added 22 points to his team’s final tally when he placed second in his weight class. Salinas won by fall over on Gabe Rosenstiel from Goddard-Eisenhower in round one, and won by fall over on Michael Hipp from Hoisington in round two. In round three, Salinas won by decision over Skylar McMullen from Great Bend, and fell by fall over by Patrick Foxworth from Junction City in the first place match.

Julian Rosales, 144, place is unknown, and he did not add any points to the team’s final score. In round one, Rosales fell by fall over from Jace Schartz from Great Bend, and fell by fall over by Conner Colby from Trego Community in round two.

Elias Anguiano, 165, added 9 points to the team’s final tally when he placed sixth in his weight class. Anguiano won by fallover on Ethan Popp from Goddard-Eisenhower in round one, and won by decision over Kayden Hudson from Phillipsburg in round two. Anguiano fell by fall over by Griffin Bohanan from Junction City in round three, and fell by Raul Perez from Pratt in round four. Anguiano fell by decision by Kayden Hudson from Phillipsburg in the fifth place match.

Kaleb Jaquez, 175, added 15 poins to the team’s final tally when he placed fifth in his weight class. Jaquez won by fall over on Braxton Fritzler from Hays in round one, and won by injury default over Mason Hernandez from Goodland in round two. Jaquez fell by fall over by Matthew Johnson from Great Bend in round three, and fell by decision by Logan Nabus from Junction City in round four. Jaquez won by fall over on Brayden Strobel from Russel in the fifth place match.

Justin Degollado, 190, added 10 points to the team’s final tally when he placed fifth in his weight class. Degollado received a bye in round one, and fell by fall over by Maverick Spresser from Goodland. Degollado won by major decision over Dalton Slaughter from Pratt in round two, and won by decision over Raymond Gary-Hernandez from Manhattan in round three. Degollado fell by major decision by Luke Fischer from Larned in round four, and won by medical forfeit over Cooper Bogenhagen from Junction City in the fifth place match.

Carmelo Orosco, 215, place is unknown, and he added three points to the team’s final tally. Orosco received a bye in round one, and fell by tech fall over by Keyven Schroeder from Great Bend. Orosco won by fall over on James Baker from Pratt in round two, and fell by decision from Ivan Jirak from Oakley in round three.

Emilio Guzman, 285, plase is unkown, and he did not add any points to the team’s final score. Guzman lost by fall over by Will Nichols from Hays in round one, and fell by fall over from Angel Bowersox from Larned in round two.

The next UHS wrestling match will be at the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City on January 27 and 28.
