Updates on COVID in Grant County

Posted

Grant County Commissioners were updated on the COVID-19 situation in the county by Health Department Administrator Denise James during their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 18th. According to James, the county currently has 175 positive cases (as of January 17, 2022) of COVID.

Ruby Romero, USD 214 Nurse, had contacted James on Monday evening to report that the school district had 87 students and nine teachers who had tested positive. Romero wondered if the county was planning to implement another mask mandate. She wanted to take the information to the school board at their meeting Tuesday night. At this time, the county does not plan to require masking but repeated their original statement that the school board should make their own decision regarding the safety of their staff members and students.

There are currently only two places to get tested for COVID -- the Grant County Health Department and Genesis Family Health. Both offer the rapid test or the PCR test. According to James, results are available in about 15 minutes from the rapid test and up to five days for the PCR, which is a more thorough and accurate test.
