USD 214 Welcomes Burton As New Superintendent

Corey Burton joins USD 214 as the new Superintendent on July 1st, 2022.

Burton has 28 years of experience in education. For the past three years,

Burton started his teaching career teaching Business Education at Hillsboro High School for nine years, and was later the Principal at Hillsboro Middle School for three years. Burton spent thirteen years as the Principal of the Ellis Junior and Senior High Schools in Ellis, Kansas, and was most recently the Superintendent of the Ellis School District.

“I enjoy building relationships with the students, teachers, parents, and patrons of a school district,” Burton said, “Having the opportunity to help a district and community grow is exciting, as you know you are impacting students, and families, lives.”

In 1991, Burton received an Associates Degree in Business at Colby Community College. Burton received a Bachelors in Business Education from Fort Hays State University in 1994, as well as a District Leadership Licensure in 2017. Burton also received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Emporia State University in 2001.

Burton enjoys hunting, exercising, and working with his hands. Burton also has two children; Abby Burton, who will be a Senior at Pitt State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, and Easton Burton, who will be a Freshman at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

Burton hopes to see the school system in Ulysses grow and develop in ways that will not only benefit current students, but generations to come.

“I am very excited for my move to Ulysses,” Burton said, “I look forward to getting to know the many great people at USD 214, and the Ulysses Community as a whole. Let’s continue to make Ulysses a great place to grow, learn, and succeed. Go Tigers!”
