William (Steven) Thomas, 70, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 15, at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, NM.

He was born September 14, 1952, in Ulysses, the son of William “Nap” and Charlene (Howerton) Thomas.

Steven was born and raised in Ulysses, and despite moving to New Mexico, continued to be incredibly fond of his hometown and always planned to be buried in Ulysses. His father William “Nap” Thomas is also buried in the Ulysses Cemetery. Steven was so fond of Ulysses that when he became ill, he attempted to be relocated to Ulysses so he could pass away where he grew up.

Steven was a smart and thorough man. He was also an honest man. In fact, the day before he passed, he wanted to make sure his tax return would be filed with the IRS.

Steven is preceded in death by his father William “Nap” Thomas.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Steven touched are invited to a graveside service at the Ulysses Cemetery, at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, May 4, with Reverend Todd Guinn officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to Peacemaker’s International in the care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
