Angelica Ochoa Cortez, age 72, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Friday, April 15, 2022, in Garden City, Kansas. She was born July 23, 1949, in Los Álamos, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Miguel and Eloisa (Leyva) Cortez.
Angelica grew up in Mexico. She married Manuel Ochoa and they moved to Copeland, Kansas, and settled in Ulysses in 1975. As a family, they spent many years rouging fields. Angelica worked at Grant County Feeders, IPB, Wagon Bed Inn, and Western Prairie Care Home. She enjoyed cooking, and loved singing and taking care of her grandkids, loved her church and reading the Bible. Angelica had a very nurturing soul and was a mother to everyone she met. She had many friends that loved her, and Angelica will be remembered for her love and heart of gold.
Angelica is survived by her husband of 56 years, Manuel; sons, Jesse Ochoa of Ulysses, Kansas, Orlando Ochoa of Odessa, Texas, Miguel Ochoa of Pratt, Kansas, and David A. Ochoa of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter, Sylvia Ortiz of Ulysses, Kansas; sisters, Olga De La O of Texas, Toribia Galindo, Anabelia Galindo, and Eloina Castilleja all of Ulysses, Kansas; brother, Mike Cortez of Texas; 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Angelica is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Eloisa; and daughter, Sylvia Ochoa.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Ulysses with Pastor Gustavo Perez officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM and Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
