Betty DuBois, 81, died Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Progressive Care Center in Canon City, Colorado. She was born July 6, 1945, in Flagler, Colorado, to Wendell and Cleo (Baylie) Anslinger.
She grew up and graduated in Troy, Kansas. She married Gene DuBois on November 1, 1965, in Clayton, New Mexico. They made their home in Satanta, Kansas, where they raised their three children: Rick, Paula, and Jeannetta.
Gene and Betty operated a restaurant for a time in Satanta, but Betty’s favorite role was that of a homemaker. She never missed any of her children’s sporting events or other extracurricular activities and was also a leader for their troops in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Additionally, she spent many hours helping her children with their 4-H projects and preparing entries each year for the Haskell County Fair. Betty was also an outstanding cook and made many great dishes which have been passed down and still appear on the tables of her children and grandchildren. Betty was a very talented seamstress. She loved sewing for her family and made everything from school clothes for her children to elegant pageant dresses for Jeannetta and beautiful Easter outfits and spectacular Halloween costumes for her grandkids. One of her most treasured pieces was a patchwork quilt she made from Gene’s denim jeans which also contains blocks that she embroidered with special family memorabilia.
After her kids were grown, Betty worked at Plantation Reproductions in Satanta, Kansas, Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Liberal, Kansas, and then in the advertising department at a few local newspapers, where her bright and friendly personality and creative talents cultivated many lifelong friendships.
Betty loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely and would travel many miles to Texas, North Dakota, and Nebraska to celebrate as many special moments as possible with them.
She is survived by her children, Rick DuBois, Paula (Dwayne) Owings, and Jeannetta Adamson; 10 grandchildren: Ashley, Maggie, Nicci, Josh, Emma, Zach, Haley, Riley, Michaela and Michael; 12 great-grandchildren: Harper, Hailee, Cooper, Parker, Weston, Felixx, Haiden, Noah, Sterling, Sadie, Hayden and Bella; her brother, Larry Anslinger; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, and two sisters, Myrna Littlejohn and Darlene DeVault.
