A new school record was set by the Kepley girls 1600-meter relay team at the meet in Guymon. The team of Angie Griffin, Emily Colman, Andrea Jaurequi and Candy Parks broke the record set in 1980.

Joyce School has released the honor roll for the third nine Weeks. Those receiving all A’s were Sonya Battin, Phil Frazier, Hunter Goldsby, Matt Jones, Donna Kreie, Melissa Swift and Lisa Wright.

Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Malone and family spent the Weekend at Manhattan where they attended the state track meet that Mark Malone was competing. The Scott Malones also attended the meet on Saturday.

The Ulysses Rotary Club elected its directors for 1961-62. Those elected were Harry C. Morton Jr., Julian Forrer, A. Gerald Whittier, Howard Phifer, Floyd V. Pinnick and Fred Sweazy. Current president Don Gaskill will remain on the board of directors.

Mayor Hubert McCall Jr. reports that the Kansas State Highway Commission has granted approval for the installation of a flashing beacon at the intersection of US-160, US-270 and K-25 in Ulysses. Pioneer Cooperative has volunteered to provide labor and will supply the electricity free of charge to the city.

The annual sunrise prayer meeting and breakfast will be held at the Christian Church on Easter Sunday. The meeting is open to all and will begin at 6:30 a.m.

The children of Grandpa Kepley met at his home Sunday in honor of his eighty-seventh birthday. A bounteous dinner was served consisting of turkey, chicken, ice cream and cake plus many other tempting dishes. He received a nice reclining chair with a self-adjusting back.

We had an old time dust storm Monday afternoon and we don’t enjoy them any better now than we did the first one we ever witnessed.
