Rob Lake, an Internationally renowned illusionist returned to Ulysses. Lake brought the acclaimed stage presentation of "The Woman In Black". In Other news, Galen Pelton was named President at Grant County Bank. He was to take over duties January 2, 2013.

Ramon Corna, a 5th grader at Sullivan School, was nominated by teacher Mrs. Cheri Long for being an outstanding student for the local Rotary. Patricia Barron won the Ulysses Rotary student of the month.

A group of parents addressed the USD 214 School Board regarding their concerns for a better weight room facility, a new track and the evaluation of the football program.

County Treasurer Lola Tarrant reported that 51 and a half percent of taxes had been paid by December 20. The total tax abstract was $8,213,730.75.As of Monday evening of that week, $4,228,236.39 (51.47 percent) had been tabulated as having been paid, and not all of the envelopes had been opened.

Grant County received $54,768 in revenue sharing funds. The  city of Ulysses received funds in the range of $36,000 earlier in the year. The County said they would use their received monies in some way reccommended by federal guidelines.

One of Grant County's oldest industrial installations was soon to disappear. The United Carbon plant at Ryus was to be shut down and dismantled. The action was planned by the company for several years, following a partial shutdown of the plant in 1955, according to plant manager R.W. Itschner.

Joyce Carter and Evelyn Hockett, county and district champions in a 4.H team demonstration, "Making Cream Biscuits", were each awarded a silver medal by Standard Brands Inc., of New York. Carter received an additional award as food preparation champion of Grant County.

War ration book number 1, commonly known as the sugar rationing book, must be turned in to the local war price and rationing board upon the entrance of the holder into the Armed Forces. In case of a death, the deceased's book must be turned in by the proper person. The deadline for obtaining War Ration Book No. 1 has been set back to January 15, 1943. Ration Book number 2, to be issued after January 15, will operation on the point-ration system.  It was also announced that E.A. Kepley will again head the county ACP committee in 1943. Otto W. Hielscher and Earl B. Williams will serve as his assistants again.

F.D. Thomas, of Sublette, was promoted to the rank of corporal in the coast artillery of the Kansas State College unit of the R.O.T.C. Thomas is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Thomas, formerly of Ulysses.

At 2 o'clock that afternoon, there was to be a number of turkeys turned loose on Main Street in Ulysses which were to free for the catching. Turkeys were furnished by the businessmen  of Ulysses and everyone was invited to join in the chase and get a turkey if they could, It was free.
