Alan and Isaac Garcia were both named State Champs December 22, 2022, at the State Silver Gloves in Wichita. Alan was State Champ in the 8-9 year old division, 70 pounds; and Isaac was State Champ in the 12-13 year old division, 65 pounds.

John Riggs informed the Ulysses City Council at their regular meeting that he and Pete Earles would be closing their business, Earles and Riggs Engineers, Planners and Landscape Architects. The two were going to sever their partnership and form separate businesses. February 2, 2003, would be the official closing date of the joint venture.

A Seward County Sheriff Deputy made a routine traffic stop in Liberal that resulted in Grant County authorities being able to solve two burglaries to Gish's Sporting Goods which occurred in Ulysses on December 4, 1992, and December 15, 1992.

Ozark Country Jubilee was to be brought to Ulysses by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce. This was to mark the second time for the group to appear here. The entertainment was to be "good pickin, and singin', seasoned with hillbilly comedy". Besides flavorful country sounds, the group also performs popular hits and gospel music.

Domingo Guerrero was sentenced to two to 20 years on charges of voluntary manslaughter by District Judge Keaton Duckworth. Guerrero was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of Reynaldo Benavidez on June 18, 1972 James Billy Stinson was set to be arraigned on charges of Child Abandonment. Stinson, a native of McClave, Colo., was charged with abandoning his young stepdaughters near Ulysses on November 21, 1972.

The Grant County 4-H club trip winners for their 1962 activities will attend the Denver Stock Show January 12-15. Trip winners are guests of Ulysses Cooperative Oil and Supply each year and are awarded the trip by their 4-H club achievements. They were accompanied by several adult leaders.

John Ross, 22, was arrested by Undersheriff Jack Ford and Ulysses Police Officer J.T. Randles following an investigation of a drunken driving report. Ross, who was serving in the Army is said to have deserted from Fort Bliss, Texas in August 1952. His case was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation by military authorities.

Grant County's first call for men from the selective headquarters for 1943 calls for 12 men to report to the induction center at Fort Leavenworth January 19. The 10 men added from Grant County were Melvin Delos Teeter, Douglas John Lewis, Raymond Reece Hampton, Vernon J. Koehn, Vern Adelbert Bell, Charles William Murray, Charles Robert Lyle, Harold Eugene Hampton, Floyd Miles Hampton and James Harlan Hockett. Three registrants were out of town registrants and their papers were sent to the proper boards.

Marauders who attempted to enter Goodnight Pharmacy were frightened away. Mrs. Goodnight was awakened by the sound of someone trying to cut a hole through the screen which covered the rear window in the room in the building where Mr. and Mrs. Goodnight were sleeping. There will probably be other attempts at burglary if there is someone in this community who has a crime of this kind in mind, and about the best remedy for it that we know of is to have the old trusty shotgun handy and when the burglar appears try your shooting skill on him.

Earl Miller reports a kitten at their place which has apparently denied relationship with its own tribe and has taken up its abode with a litter of young pigs it sleeps with them and seems to enjoy their company and when meal time comes, why, it just pitches in and shares with the pigs. If there is any apology due either side we don't know which should make it. Train service over the new road began on January 1, by the arrival of a freight train carrying a coach and the private car of Supt. Ogg.
