Ulysses High School has released the 4th nine Weeks honor rolls. Seniors named to the Principal’s Honor Roll are Hollace Dillon, Kimber Hartless, Joshua Jarnagin, Cindy Luna, Kaylee Schilling and Jared Valdez.

Miss Cinco de Mayo Priscilla Rivas and first runner-up Danielle Pauda competed in the American GI Forum State Queen Pageant in Garden City on June 21st. Rivas was awarded first runner-up and Pauda earned second runner-up in the State Pageant.

(Week of July 1, 1992)

The 1992 Pioneer Telephone Directory Cover Contest winner is Mike Kimball of Ulysses. His winning entry is a color photograph featuring one of this year’s foreign exchange students enjoying a field of sunflowers.

(Week of July 1, 1982)

The Ulysses Swim Club has a record of four wins and no losses after a big victory at the meet held last Weekend in Oklahoma City. Guymon was second followed by Woodward, Pampa and Spearman. Ulysses won ten of the 20 relay competititions.

(Week of June 29, 1972)

Kirby Bradley, Jay McNitt, Annette Hickok and Myrna Byers were among 340 Kansas high school juniors and seniors who attended a citizenship seminar at Rock Springs Ranch. The event was sponsored by Farm Bureau.

(Week of June 28, 1962)

Since the arrival of summer, an average of 300 persons are using the Grant County swimming pool to cool off each day. Manager Bill Barnes reported that the largest attendance was 349 on June 10th. This does not include the average 100 children and accompanying adults at the wading pool daily.

(Week of June 26, 1952)

Alleys in Ulysses will be sprayed Friday morning if the weather is suitable. A spray truck will be used in the campaign to cut down flies and other insects. Residents are asked to take the usual precautions if the day is clear and not too windy. Don’t hang clothes on lines near to alleys that day.

(Week of June 25, 1942)

Twenty members and guests were present for the Legion Auxiliary party at the home of Mrs. Roy Harrison. The party was given for those eligible for membership in the auxiliary. Mrs. Harry Heltemes gave a talk on the organization of the auxiliary and Mrs. H. L. Sturman talked on the flag.

The ladies of Ulysses are organizing a “gym” class for ages 16 and up. Meeting at the Methodist Church basement each evening at 7 o’clock. Those interested should get in touch with one of the officers -- Clola Stansberry, Mrs. D. T. Hart or Mrs. Dr. Coffey.

(Week of Jul 1, 1922)

There will be a tacky dance on July 5th, 1922, given by the American Legion post. Admission is $1.00 and ladies are admitted free at Hiatts Hall. A prize of $5.00 will be given to the tackiest couple.
