Kenneth and Alma Bogue were married on June 6, 1941 in Chandler, Arizona. They moved to Ulysses in 1951. They are celebrating their 71st anniversary.

Josh Ybarra and Andrea Meierhoff received the KSHSAA Citizenship Awards at the UHS Senior awards on May 16th. Andrea also received the Leo Eck award.

The engagement and approaching marriage of Kimberly Blundell to Kevin Swafford has been announced by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Blundell and Mr. and Mrs. William Swafford of Pratt. Both are graduates of Ulysses High School. The couple is planning a July 4th wedding at the United Methodist Church in Ulysses.

Tucker Enterprises, Inc. of Carbondale has announced plans to build 24 housing units on South Missouri Street south of Peach Tree Park. The multifamily housing units will be in the middle income range. Plans call for seven buildings. The units will be one, two and three bedroom.

Eleven new teachers have been contracted in Grant County schools according to Superintendent Merrill Durr. They include John Moreland, high school principal; Alma Lee Powers, vocal music at Red Rock and Joyce; Harold Jones, UHS industrial arts; Louise Jones, sixth grade; Ruth Cones, sixth grade; Dennis Boepple, UHS speech and debate; and Ron Ferman, junior high social studies.

Boy Scout Troop 186 will have a paper drive on June 9th and June 23rd. They will canvas the town and gather old newspapers. Anyone having papers are asked to stack them on their front porches. Only newspapers are acceptable. If you are missed during the drive and would like to donate, call FL 6-1830.

Mrs. Roy Robinson entertained with a party for her son Tommy’s fifth birthday. Games were played, many nice gifts were presented to the honoree, and ice cream cones, birthday cake and lemonade were served to these guests: Barbara Reeves, Janet & Jerry Caldwell, Troy Gee, Mike Conaway, Eddie & Denny Deyoe, Larry & Garry Gee and Bobbie Robinson.

(Week of June 4, 1942)

Rows of bins are popping up like mushrooms along elevator row to form a “steel city”. By Monday, 64 of the 91 steel bins due in Grant County for wheat storage were here. Twenty were completed and fifteen were under construction. The bins will be set up east of the big Sullivan terminal, at Hickok and at Mile Post.

A rifle shoot will be held at the rifle range south of the Sullivan ranch on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting. All parties interested are invited to attend and try out their skill with the high power rifle.

(Week of June 10, 1922)

One does not have to drive far from Ulysses to see some fine wheat and there is plenty of it to be seen. We have driven past a good many fields of wheat of various sizes up to 160 acres and a number of them look like anything from 25 to 40 bushel wheat.
