Seven students had perfect attendance for the entire school year at Sullivan school. Allyson Chaparro, Cesar Molina, Halle Nagel, Erik Morales, Corbin Ail, Brady Barnes and Fito Mendoza received a medal and certificate and were treated to pizza and ice cream.

Jaci Wilkening of Ulysses was elected Governor at Sunflower Girl’s State. This is the highest office awarded to participants of the Week-long leadership program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Wilkening will be a senior at Ulysses High School this fall.

(Week of June 24, 1992)

Bill and Opal Covey are celebrating their 50th Anniversary on June 28th. A card shower is being held in their honor. The couple has two sons, Gary of Ulysses and Jimmy of Colorado Springs. They also have two grandsons and two granddaughters.

The Class of 1962 from Grant County Rural High School held their 20th Class reunion over the Weekend in Ulysses. See the “Blast From the Past” for a picture and names of those attending.

Ulysses has a new pharmacist as Jeff Menzie has returned home after completing his education at Kansas University. He is working at McNitt Drug and he and his wife, Pamela are glad to be in Ulysses. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Menzie.

(Week of June 21, 1962)

The new intermediate school that will be built in Ulysses was named Hickok school by the board of education. The name for the new school carries on a tradition of naming the schools after early Grant County families.

(Week of June 19, 1952)

Mrs. Ed McGillivray was honored at a pink and blue shower hosted by Mrs. Glen Popejoy. Twenty-six guests enjoyed games and contests. The guests were treated to ice cream with blue storks, cupcakes decorated in pink and blue, and fruit punch.

Elmer Tarbet left Tuesday for California after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Tarbet. He will enter the army upon his return.

(Week of June 23, 1932)

Three Grant County 4-H club members were elected into “Who’s Who,” the honorary 4-H club in Kansas. Those elected were Marjorie Moyer, Emmett Murphy and Dorothy Teeter. Membership is based upon leadership and service in 4-H club work.

(Week of June 24, 1922)

John Yohn was repairing his well Sunday with help from George McGillivray and Carl Walker.
