Six UHS Juniors will be attending American Legion Boys State in Manhattan June 3-9. They are: Caleb Swann, JoAngel Cortez, Elpidio Cortez, Jr., Michael Brollier, Luke Haney and Xavier Rodriguez.

At promotion ceremonies for Kepley Middle school, Scott Hilton was named Student of the Year. Those eighth graders receiving the Citizenship Award were Michael Carpenter and Lexi Teeter.

Three Tiger ladies competed at the state track meet in Wichita. Missy Russell placed second in the discus throw; Jenna Britton finished third in the triple jump, fourth in 300m hurdles and eighth in the long jump; and Tara Frey placed tenth in the 1600m run and 14th in the 3200m run.

Mr. and Mrs. Keith Pucket of Ulysses celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on May 26th with a family dinner. Keith and Ida have three children who are live in Ulysses. They are: Beverly Coffey, Steve Pucket and Daryl Pucket. They also have five grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wise of Hutchinson announce the birth of their daughter, Angela Sue, born on May 19th. The little miss weighed eight pounds and 11 ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Lozar and Mr. and Mrs. Velmer Wise, all of Ulysses.

(Week of June 7, 1962)

In the first Little League baseball game to be played in Ulysses, the local boys defeated Manter 16 to 12. Coaches for the team are John Flowers and Ronnie Howard. There has been so much interest shown by boys from nine to thirteen years old that several teams may be organized for local league play in addition to the games with other towns.

Approximately 250 youngsters have enrolled for the summer recreation program in Ulysses. The individual programs offered are boys and girls softball; boys and girls tennis; boys and girls swimming; band; square dancing; and arts and crafts.

Hubert F. McCall, Jr., age 20, has been sworn in at the Kansas City Naval Aviation Cadet Selection board. He will be ordered soon to a pre-flight training induction center for three months of physical conditioning under several of the nation’s leading coaches, and then will begin preliminary flight training.

Last Friday the barber shops of the city elected to reduce the price of haircuts and plain shampoos to twenty-five cents each which will be a big saving to the patrons of the local shops.

(Week of June 3, 1922)

We were give another fine rain amounting to about an inch on Monday night. This put the wheat in prime condition again and made the sod plow well.
