The Grant County Sheriff’s Department has seen an increase in rural thefts, mostly metal type thefts and some equipment type thefts. If you, or someone you know lives in a rural area, be sure to lock your things and make people aware that they are living in a different time where unfortunately not everyone is trust worthy.

It is with sadness that Gibson’s is closing their doors in Ulysses. Where will we go now to buy many of the products we have been buying there? Wow, what a big chunk of money Gibson’s has given to Ulysses through payroll, advertising, monies spent on utilities, donations to the community, and the list goes on and on.

Carlie Meyer was named the October Student of the Month at Kepley School. She is the daughter of Rocky and Glynis Meyer. Carlie has one sister, Mandy, who attends school at Ulysses High School.

Miss Donna Melton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wooten, of Ulysses, has been selected as delegate to the Miss Kansas portion of the Miss U.S.S. Pageant in Overland Park, Kansas, on November 19, 20, and 21.

In the first six months of this year, Grant County had 62 highway accidents, with one fatality, the state highway commission reports.

City mail delivery began in Ulysses Wednesday, Nov. 14. Postmaster Julian Forrer said there has been a wide interest in residential areas in recent weeks in preparation for home deliveries of mail and he expects more to come as the city delivery gets under way.

Principal Robert W. Gilger has announced that the Ulysses grade school will be dismissed at 3 p.m. Monday afternoon so that preparations may be made for parents to attend school that evening. The occasion will be a “back to school” meeting of the Parents-Teachers Association, at 7:30 Monday evening. The parents will be the students and will go through a shortened school day. This will give them an opportunity to observe classroom methods and procedure at the school.

Contour planting on his 40-acre sudan grass field prevented runoff of rain water with the result that this year he produced enough feed there to pasture 140 cattle for a month, is the report of Harry Joyce, who farms 13 miles southwest of Ulysses.

The Junior class play, “Two Days to Marry,” will be given at the High School Auditorium Friday, November 18, at 8 o’clock p.m. Admission, 10 and 25 cents. The cast has worked very hard and we hope everyone will be here to see their play.

David Hennigh had a run-away Wednesday while hauling wheat to town. No serious accident as it happened.
