Fall Fest and Safety Fest will be held on Saturday in downtown Ulysses. Activities include a car show, a scroll saw demonstration, coins in the sand, and a live scarecrow contest for all ages. Enjoy vendors, food booths and fun & games at this year’s event.

Wes Martin, a sophomore at Ulysses High School, has been named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Martin is the son of Dennis and GeJuan Martin of Ulysses.

The 4-H Key award is considered one of the highest awards in 4-H. A 4-H’er must be 16 years old and be enrolled in Junior Leadership for two or more years. This year’s recipients in Grant County were Shannon Alford and Dustin Covey.

Spirit Week ended with the traditional parade and downtown pep rally last Week. Announced winner of the float competition was the Freshman class. The Junior’s float placed second, followed by the Sophomores and the Seniors. Homecoming King and Queen were Eddie Franco and Mona Sullivan.

It was a son for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nagel, born September 27th at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. He weighed seven pounds and 11 ounces and his name is Cory Andrew.

Officers were elected for Girl Scout Troops 35 and 19 during their Monday meeting. Those elected were: Connie Lock, president; Darla Samms, vice president; Patty Scofield, treasurer; Pam Gepner, scribe; Lisbeth Phillips, game leader; and Leanne Patterson, song leader.

At the first meeting of the year, the Kays elected officers. Jerry Pinkerton was chosen President; Bill Lozar, vice-president; Burnus Goodwin, secretary; Larry Elliott, treasurer; and John Ladner and Marlin Krentzel, Student Council.

(Week of October 8, 1942)

Raymond “Red” Tarbet is expected in Ulysses at the end of the Week on a furlough from the Navy. He called his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Tarbet, on Tuesday from San Francisco. Tarbet has been in the service for the last three years, stationed in the Pacific. He was on a ship in the Pearl Harbor attack.

(Week of October 6, 1932)

In one of the best football games played since the game was taken up by the high school, Ulysses beat Rolla last Friday by the score of six to two. The merchants closed their stores during the game and nearly everyone went out to boost for the home boys, who showed their appreciation by bringing in the victory.

(Week of October 7, 1922)

The stork left a baby girl at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McGillivray on September 27th. The little miss is named Virginia Lee.
