'Bringing Joy, One Bite At A Time'

Posted

Growing up I learned how to bake from my family. I could usually find my grandma and mom in the kitchen baking or cooking up some new treat or meal.

I come from a large family, which meant holidays provided a lot of tasty dishes and desserts. In my grandmas house, she had a special dining room with two long tables and special china we would use for holiday meals. The tables were filled with homemade crescent rolls, jam, and all the holiday fixings.

When I was younger, we would play songs on the piano to show what we had learned in our piano lessons and to have fun. My dad and uncle would play the theme song from Pink Panther.

We were only allowed in the special dining room for family gatherings, playing the piano, or playing games. Prepping for each holiday get together was exciting and hard work. Each of my aunts and their family would bring a dessert or a snack for our couples days of fun, games and quality time.

My grandma had a small business where she made gorgeous wedding cakes with tiers, stairs and the plastic people posed on the stairways. She made us birthday cakes almost every year with the exception when my mom would make our favorite meal and dessert.

My grandma and my mom participated in the farmer’s market for several years. During those years at the farmer’s market, I would help make pies, cookies, quick breads, canned goods, among lots of other tasty baked goods. Baking and cooking was a normal routine in my family.

Holidays, birthdays, and special occasions meant a lot of food and time spent with family. To this day you can always count on No-bake cookies, Puppy Chow, Chex Mix, my grandmas crescent rolls and cinnamon rolls. Family and food went together. As a child, being able to help cook meals and bake desserts was a highlight.

From a young age, I loved to bake. Today, I bake for myself and for others.

My grandmas and my mom taught me how to bake for small and large groups. Baking brings me joy and is an outlet for my stress. I bake so others can feel the joy and love I put into each baked good.

Baking with quality ingredients is important to me. I always bake from scratch, because that is what I was taught.

I have worked in the fast food and catering industries. Food has always been a part of my life in some aspect. A few years ago, I took the leap and went to Culinary school to become a pastry chef. Culinary school was such a fun and quality learning experience.

My dream as a child was to open a restaurant like my great grandparents. I am still processing the idea, but for now I am enjoying baking and sharing my food with others.

My motto has been "Bringing joy, one bite at a time".
