BWMH Operates 'Business As Usual' Amid Company Split

Posted

Centura Health will split into two companies that merged in 1996- CommonSpirit Health, based in Chicago, and AdventHealth, based in Altamonte Springs, Fla. After 27 years, the two groups announced recently they will no longer be a partnership.

According to a news release, "CommonSpirit Health and AdventHealth have collaboratively agreed they can best serve their communities and health care ministries without a partnership - with each organization directly managing their respective care sites which comprise Centura Health. Both organizations are committed to a thoughtful and expeditious transition, and Centura Health will continue in its management role of the hospitals, physician clinics and other care sites throughout the transition. There will be no disruption to patient care."

Each health system will directly manage their respective care sites in Colorado and western Kansas that comprise Centura Health, according to a press release.

Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives and AdventHealth formed Centura Health in 1996. Catholic Health Initiatives has since merged with San Francisco-based Dignity Health to form CommonSpirit Health.

While the joint venture has been a strong partnership for 27 years, "CommonSpirit Health and AdventHealth have both grown and evolved over the years as have the health care needs of the communities. The partnership has accomplished so much; yet, it has reached its natural maturity."

CommonSpirit Health and AdventHealth said Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health will continue in its management role of the hospitals, physician clinics and other care sites during the transition.

CommonSpirit Health and AdventHealth maintain a strong relationship and are united in their commitment to the caregivers and ensuring the communities they serve have access to the best health care during and well beyond this transition.

A spokesperson said they "expect to have additional details in the weeks and months ahead."

When Speaking to Christie Meier, Manager of Hospital and Outpatient Services at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, She said the split of the two has been pushed back.

"The (split) has been pushed back to August 1," Meier said. "(And) we've been told to conduct business as usual."

CommonSpirit Health operates 138 hospitals and more than 2,000 care sites in 21 states. AdventHealth has more than 50 hospital campuses and hundreds of care sites in nine states.

Centura Health is a 20-hospital organization.

AdventHealth will operate and manage the five Adventist hospitals and affiliated clinics in Colorado while CommonSpirit Health will operate and manage 15 hospitals and affiliated clinics in Colorado and western Kansas.
