Chamber Calls For 60th Annual 'Citizen of the Year' Nominees

Posted

For the 60th consecutive year, the community leaders and citizens of Grant County invite southwest Kansas neighbors and friends across the state of Kansas to spend an evening at the annual Home Products Dinner set for Tuesday, September 19, at the Grant County Civic Center in Ulysses.

One particular hallmark of the event since 1974 has been to reveal the “Citizen of the Year,” an award sponsored by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.  Nominations are now being accepted for the 2023 honoree.

The “Citizen of the Year” is presented to a local resident in recognition of outstanding contributions to the well-being and healthy development of the community.  An anonymous five-member rotating committee chooses the winner from a pool of nominees based on his or her accomplishments demonstrating community spirit, leadership and dedication.  Ken & Canda Warner of Ulysses were declared “Citizens of the Year” during the Home Products Dinner last September.

Nomination forms are available at the Grant County Chamber office and may also be obtained via fax or email by request.  The deadline to receive applications in the Chamber office is noon on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The annual Home Products Dinner carries on a community tradition that began in 1963 when a local politician boasted to fellow representatives that he could sustain his family on foods grown within Grant County.  Years later, the tradition continues through the time and efforts of a core planning committee, numerous business sponsors, 700+ local volunteers and over 5,000 pounds of homegrown agricultural commodities.  Event proceeds benefit the Grant County Scholarship Foundation.

Home Products Dinner buttons may be purchased in advance or at the door for $10 per person.  For more information, call (620) 356-4700, email uchamber@pld.com or visit www.ulysseschamber.org.
