Youth Core Ministries (YCM) seeks to impact rural communities through intentionally transformational relationships and unconditional love by showing Jesus to kids, families, and communities, according to a press release from the organization.

“[YCM] uses youth, family, and community-based programming; drawing alongside them as they move from poverty to plenty and to a deeper understanding of their value in the Kingdom of God," their Website states.

YCM created “Core Community” to heal lives, solve poverty, and empower communities for greatness through relationships by creating a safe space for those experiencing poverty to emerge and begin to claim the lives they deserve.

“We believe no one should live in poverty.” The YCM website states, “Families and communities can take charge of their destinies and, if given the right tools and support, economic stability can be achieved.”

Core Community is a free weekly evening program, where families and volunteers are served a “family-style” meal. Families’ children go to childcare during the program, where they can experience fun activities with caring adult volunteers.

Adult participants join together to share their lives and grow together through various curriculum and programs.

According to Ruby Payne, “Poverty is defined as ‘anywhere a person lacks resources.’” Core Community identifies 11 resources where a person can be impoverished or rich: financial, emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, language, social capital, integrity and trust, relationships/role models, knowledge of middle-class rules, motivation, and resilience.

YCM’s weekly program focuses on helping families and individuals build all 11 resources. It is not a financial program, but it looks at finances with a holistic approach.

YCM believes:

“Building a resilient and collaborative community to heal trauma and solve poverty can change lives.”

“Working together can make a difference. And, trauma and poverty are community issues we can no longer ignore.”

Ulysses’ Core Community meeting will be at 5:30 p.m., at Bear Creek Coffee, l107 N. Baughman December 5. Doors open at 5 pm.
