Cynthia Ann Livengood, 59

Posted

Cynthia Ann Livengood was born May 5, 1963 in Anthony, Kansas to Jon David and Margaret Ann (Major) Livengood.  The family made their home on a farm south of Anthony before moving into town when Cindy was two years old.  This is where Cindy attended Washington Elementary and Lincoln Junior High before attending Chaparral High School, graduating with the class of 1981.

Furthering her education, Cindy attended Cowley County Community College from 1981 to 1983 and Southwestern College from 1983 to 1985, playing basketball all four years.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education.  Shortly after college, Cindy moved to Guam and taught physical education for years.

In 1988, Cindy moved to Ulysses and worked for High Plains Education Coop and Grant County Recreation, working as a para, coach, and referee.  She then went on to obtain her Adaptive Physical Education degree from Fort Hays State University in 1994.  Cindy became the Adaptive PE teacher, guiding the paras on individual plans for special needs students.

Dedicating her life to Alcoholic Anonymous, Cindy had 21 years of sobriety.  She faithfully attended meetings and it was important for her to share her story with others.  Cindy was able to reach, support, and inspire countless women both through social media and traveling.

Most of Cindy’s travels were in some way tied into AA, whether she was the speaker or went to hear another’s story.  But she just really enjoyed going to see places and of course there were the regular trips with the girls.  Cindy loved the outdoors and was very close to her brother and his family.  She loved her dogs, and they were a big part of her life.  The last two, Ruby and Molly, were very special to her in her final months.

Cindy passed away after a short battle with cancer on June 4, 2022 at the age of 59 in the Hospice House of Hutchinson, Kansas.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  Cindy is survived by her brother, Jeffrey Livengood and his wife, Laura; nephew, Joel Livengood, his wife, Alycia, and their children Jaysten and Atlas; and nephew, Logan Livengood and his significant other, Olivia Ramey, all of Harper, Kansas.

Burial with a private family ceremony took place in the evening of June 7, 2022 where Cindy was laid to rest next to her parents in the Manchester, Oklahoma Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at the Harper United Methodist Church with Pastor Bruce Wilson officiating.  The service will be recorded and will be available with Cindy’s obituary on the funeral home’s website.
