Those wishing to file their intentions to run in the upcoming general election have until noon, June 1 to get their applications in.

"They just need to come in to the County Clerk's Office," said Anita Lane, Grant County Deputy Clerk. "There is a packet for them to fill out and they will need to pay their $20 fee."

Grant County Clerk Sheila Brown, reported to Grant County Commissioners during their May 2 meeting on how the filing was going thus far.

"We have started to get a few people coming into file for city council," Brown said. "Nobody has filed for school board yet. Terry Dimmitt filed for a council member and Tim McCauley filed for mayor."

Brown stressed that anybody wanting to file for city council, school or school board, had to get their packets completed by the deadline.

"Hopefully, we will see a few more people coming in," she said.

According to information from the county clerk's office: there are four seats up for the USD214 school board. There will be one board member elected from each member district. Each member shall be a qualified elector of the member district for which he files as a candidate. Board members will be elected for four years, beginning January 2024. The following school offices will be open to be voted on in the upcoming 2023 school election: School Board Member Position No. 1; School Board Member Position No. 2; School Board Member Position No. 3; School Board Member Position No. 7 (at large).

Should more than three candidates file for any one position, there will be a primary election Tuesday, August 1.

The Ulysses City Council consists of a mayor and six council members who are the governing body of the city.
