In the drop of a hat - everything can change. Life can be tossed upside down with no regard for those it directly is affecting.
I am reminded once again just how tenuous life can be and how important it is to let those you care about know how you feel.
The year 2025 has started off a little rough. I, myself, went through a "knock on heaven's door" in January. I received word Tuesday that a friend from my high school days had suddenly passed away. And a few weeks ago, I learned through snail mail that a friend from my past who I had once dated passed away a couple of years ago.
We all are guilty of taking for granted that we can "get to that tomorrow". That we can "tell someone we care later". Or, that perhaps they already know without us saying a word. The problem with that philosophy is time is a double edge sword - it runs out quicker than we think sometimes.
I had just seen my high school friend in February. He actually made a point to come and talk to me because he had learned what I went through in January. He lectured me on the importance of taking care of yourself. Now, he is gone. All of the ornery humor that was him is gone. He will be missed. I will miss seeing him and his viking helmet. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
We should all be more mindful of time - it is a double edge sword. It is something we think we have plenty of but in reality that could not be further from the truth. Make those amends. Give those hugs. Tell someone what they mean to you. Don't wait until tomorrow, because tomorrow may not come. Don't assume someone knows how you feel. Make those memories now.
