Economic Development Has New Possibilities

A new season has sprung upon us and with it brings new hopes, new visions and new possibilities.  Whether it is our seniors preparing for graduation and starting the next chapter of their lives, or our farmers tirelessly preparing the ground for the planting season that is about to come while keeping a weathered eye on mother nature that a summer harvest will be successful and bountiful.  The rest of our community, welcoming warmer weather to take advantage of our parks, walking paths and trails and gatherings outside with each other to enjoy our beautiful surroundings.  I feel it's a great time to be in Ulysses.

Economic Development has new possibilities as well with the roll-out of our Business Revitalization Program (BRP) as of April 1.  This year the board has decided to disperse $50,000 to local businesses in the form of 50/50 grants to assist with exterior beautification.  This grant can be used for signs, painting, doors and many other scenarios to improve the look of your business from the street.  I encourage all business owners who have a project in mind to come down to the Eco Devo office and visit with our director, Bob Dale, about more specifics.  Bob's knowledge and commitment to this community is an asset that you can take advantage of, not only about our BRP, but connections to resources to help support your business and answer those questions that arise from unexpected challenges.  While we don't always have the answer, we can find it or get you to who does.

Economic Development is here "to help new and existing businesses succeed in Grant County."  Last year we were able to give out $163,000 to local businesses to help transition ownership, inventory, improvements and equipment.  We strive to ensure we are not a competitor to any other local business or financial institution and refer businesses there first but reassure them we are here when we are needed.  Our board is made up of knowledgeable, dedicated and caring citizens who wish to see the continued success of Grant County and I personally am very honored and humble to be a part of this group.  We will continue working for the success of all of our business and make Ulysses and Grant County an attractive place for future ones.  I wish success to all of our community and am excited about the possibilities of things to come.
