Former Ulysses Assistant Superintendent Krug Honored By Colorado Association of School Boards

Earlier this month, Lamar Superintendent Dr. Chad Krug was honored with special recognition from the Colorado Association of School Boards.

According to the CASB website, the Demont Award was established to recognize administrators in districts with 1,500 students or less who will “leave it better than they found it.”

Lamar has just over that number, so though Krug could not technically qualify for the Demont Award, the CASB wanted to give him special recognition for his work with Lamar Schools.

The recognition came as a big surprise to Krug.

“It’s humbling to say the least,” said Krug.

And although the award means so much to him, Krug says it’s not just about him.

“This is a great reminder of the importance of hard work,” Krug said. “This is a chance to pay it forward so that others can be recognized for their good deeds and accomplishments.”

Jim Wilson, former state representative and current commissioner of the Colorado Commission on Higher Education with more than 40 years in education under his belt, said it was important for the committee to recognize Krug for what he’s done in Lamar in such a short time.

“He has done a lot of things in one year in Lamar,” Wilson said. “And we felt like that needed to be recognized, and maybe it could be used as an incentive to continue doing so.”

Dr. Krug was previously the assistant superintendent in the Ulysses, school district and has 20 years of experience in education and 17 years of experience in education administration. He has a bachelor of science in biology, master of science in educational administration and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Krug accepted a three-year superintendent contract with the Lamar School District on July 1, 2021.
