Special to the Ulysses News

Grant County Furever Friends hosted its 2nd Annual Cause for Paws Gala, a night to remember, Saturday, October 5, at the new Tates Event Room. Attendees enjoyed a delicious steak dinner, participated in a lively auction, and listened to live music – all for a great cause. The gala wasn’t just a celebration; it aimed to raise vital funds to support the mission of Furever Friends of Grant County.

The funds raised during the event are eligible for matching contributions from the Grant County Community Foundation. Furever Friends plans to use the money to create a dedicated facility for animals found outside city limits and for pets surrendered by their owners. As the organization continues to grow, they hope to expand their efforts, offering educational programs, resources to help pets find loving homes, and making essential services like spaying, neutering and vaccinations more affordable in Grant County.

What is Furever Friends of Grant County?

Furever Friends of Grant County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to helping pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay and neuter services, and fostering. With a comprehensive strategy, they’re tackling key issues facing the community’s animals.

Their first goal is to provide a safe, loving environment for pets until they are adopted into permanent homes. Their second is to educate the public on the importance of adopting pets from shelters and the benefits of spaying and neutering. Lastly, they aim to improve overall animal health by encouraging vaccinations against common diseases like Parvo, Kennel Cough, and Rabies, as well as treating pets for fleas and ticks – ultimately promoting better animal welfare throughout the community.

Though Furever Friends is still in its early stages, they’ve already made strides. A recent spay and neuter event led to seven successful procedures. Their vision for the future includes creating a space where volunteers can help animals socialize, play outdoors, and build trust – skills that will make them more adoptable. In the meantime, they collaborate closely with Ulysses Animal Control, assisting at the local shelter.
