Grant County EMS Adds New Ambulance To Service

Posted

Grant County EMS added a new ambulance to their arsenal this month.

Grant County EMS Director Jeff Baier said the ambulance should be ready for full dispatch by the end of the month.

“We’ve already had one call with it,” Baier said, “We transported a patient from the airport to Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital.”

One major upgrade Baier mentioned was the updated transportation stretcher. Traditional stretchers have a manual lift to enter and exit the ambulance.

According to a study published by Applied Ergonomics, “Moving from manual to powered stretchers could reduce the number of injuries to paramedics by 78 per cent.”

“The electric ‘cots’ can hold up to 750 pounds,” Baier said, “Having an electric lift helps us safely stabilize individuals, as well as reduce the risk of injury for the EMTs.”

The ambulance cab is equipped with a rear view backup camera, as well as an internal camera for the patient care area. “The driver has a full view of everything that is going on in an emergency,” Baier said.

“We average about two calls per day,” Baier said, “We do our best to get on scene in less than two minutes.” Grant County EMS had about 580 calls in total last year. Baier mentioned “calls have started to become more frequent as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
