Grant County Library Launches 'Words On Wheels' Delivery Service

Posted

The Grant County Library launched the Words on Wheels Home Delivery Service Thursday, June 15.

Those who qualify for the service can have books, movies, magazines, and audiobooks delivered at no cost. Library Director Holly Mathes expressed her excitement over the new endeavor.

“We’ve got a good start,” said Mathes. “The staff knows all of our collections well so we can give patrons suggestions if they aren’t sure what to check out.”

Grant County Library implemented a similar system in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic for residents who were practicing social distancing or under quarantine regulations.

“The Words on Wheels service makes it so we can get collections to patrons whether they’re here (at the library) or not,” said Mathes.

According to the service brochure, Words on Wheels is available to “seniors and residents who have trouble getting to the library due to mobility, health, or disability barriers”. Brochures will be available to the public around local businesses and health facilities.

To set up an account for the delivery service, interested patrons can call the Grant County Library. New accounts will require basic information, a library card, and genre interests. If a new library card is needed, one can be established over the phone.

Deliveries will be made monthly at the resident’s door, on the porch, or by other requested preferences. Once library items have been checked out and delivered, service participants can enjoy their content without the concern of accumulating late fees.

Each library item has a two-week check out time. Patrons may call for a check-out extension without charge. Automatic rechecks will be allowed up to two times. Checked out items will be collected by Words on Wheels staff when residents are ready to return them. However, if an item is lost, not returned, or damaged, a replacement fee will be required.
