Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry “Dale” Godfrey assisted Morton County and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Departments in a high speed pursuit December 28.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, at 3:22 am, they attempted to stop a confirmed stolen vehicle out of Colorado on Kansas Highway 27.

When the driver fled, the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office set up spike strips on the road.

The car continued into rural Southwest Stanton County, and was disabled by a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver at Big Bow Grade and County Road 23.

The PIT maneuver, also known as a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), is a pursuit tactic by which a pursuing car can force a fleeing car to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and stop.

Luis Angel Arreguin, 25, from Greeley, Colo., and Norma Rodriguez,19,  from Windsor, Co., were taken into custody and transported back to Hamilton County.

Deputy Godfrey joined towards the end of the pursuit.

“I heard the radio chatter and joined in hopes to cut off the high speeding vehicle.” Godfrey explained. Godfrey witnessed the PIT maneuver, and was involved in removing the two individuals from the vehicle at gunpoint.

Godfrey said the adult male was fleeing because he had outstanding warrants.

According to Hamilton County Sheriff Mike Wilson, Arreguin was charged with flee or attempt to elude, commission of a felony, and possession of stolen property (vehicle), and Rodriguez was charged with possession of stolen property.
