Homecoming 2024 Candidates

The Ulysses High School Fall Homecoming candidates were recently announced from the senior class. Queen candidates this year are: Jovi Hauser, Galilea Martinez, Sol  Elizabeth Villar, and Hanna Wolf. King candidates, left to right: Esai Rodriguez, Jose Tarango, Quincy Sierra, and Joel Guaderrama.

Couples are Jovi and Jose, Galalia and Quincy, Sol and Esai, and Joel and Hanna.

The King and Queen for 2024-25 will be announced as part of the homecoming activities tomorrow, Friday, October 11, at Ulysses High School Tiger Stadium. It will be Tigers versus Tigers as UHS will be taking on Guymon  High School with game action set to kick off at 7 p.m.

The candidates were asked to provide a little information about themselves prior to the game. Their answers are as follows:

Queen Candidates

Sol Elizabeth Villar

Senior Sol Elizabeth Villar has been involved in golf, HALO, Interact, crochet club, and debate. Her hobbies and interests, all of which she says she "loves" include: reading, taking naps, and spending time with family and friends.

Her favorite UHS memory is "when Jayden started to make her own remix of Something in the Orange, by Zach Bryan on our way home from a golf tournament - it made everyone laugh."

Her favorite thing about UHS is the staff, "because they have all dealt with my expressive personality." Sol's favorite subject is English, "because its an amazing art to be able to put your thoughts into words."

If she had a superpower, Sol said she wishes she could fly. "So I could travel the world without paying for a plane ticket."

Her future plans include to obtain a major in marketing and a minor in psychology at K-State.

She has three siblings: Maurice, 22; Isabela, 11; and Victoria, 3. She is the daughter of Sonia and Juan Villar.

"I admire my parents the most because they came to the United States to give me and my siblings a better future," Sol said. "They're completely selfless."

The best advice Sol has ever been given is to "expect nothing, but be grateful for everything."

Galilea Martinez

Senior Galilea Martinez has been involved in cross country, choir, band, musicals, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), NHS (National Honor Society), SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), Interact, Catalyst youth group, and the Enviados Praise Team.

Her hobbies include singing with her mom and taking naps with her cat.

Galilea's favorite UHS memory is Mr. Partin's April Fool's prank. "He threw a flute across the room."

Her favorite thing about UHS involves music.

"I am beyond grateful for all the musical opportunities and experiences I have been given throughout high school," she said.

Her favorite subject in school is choir.

"I've always had my best friends in that class and it's always fun to be able to perform and create music with them," Galilea said.

If she had a superpower, Galilea said she would like the power of teleportation, because "I'm always late."

Her future plans include attending Tabor College in Hillsboro to study Music Education.

She has two siblings: Marcos, 21; and Camila, 14. She is the daughter of Marcos and Malissa Martinez.

"(The person I admire the most is) my mom," she said. "She is such a loving woman and teaches me everyday on how to better my relationship with God."

The best advice she has ever been given is to "Trust in the Lord no matter what. No matter what hardships you go through, He is always here with open arms waiting for you."

Hanna Wolf

Senior Hanna Wolf has been involved in golf, Interact, Ambush, E-Sports, and the Church of Christ.

"Golf is not only my sport, but my favorite hobby," she added. "I love traveling and viewing nature scenery. I love spending time with my family and friends."

Her favorite memory of UHS is Project Prom her freshman year with her sister.

"But nothing will beat the joy Friday Night Lights gives me," she added.

Her favorite thing about UHS is the "opportunities given us to help us succeed to our fullest potential".

Hanna's favorite class is English.

"I have a deep love for poetry and I love to write," she added.

If she had a superpower, Hanna said she would like to be able to mind read, so she could always be "one step ahead."

Her future plans include getting her associate in arts. After that, she plans to attend Wichita University to work towards her bachelor's in fine arts and then a master's degree in graphic design.

She has one sibling: Jacklyn Wolf, 20. She is the daughter of Jack and Cinda Wolf.

"I admire my dad for pushing me to be my best and to live at my fullest potential," Hanna said. "He consistently remains calm under pressure and never fails to show me what true admiration looks like."

The best advice she has ever been given is to "take the risk, or lose the chance."

Jovi Hauser

Senior Jovi Hauser has been involved in volleyball, softball, SADD, Interact, FCA, Ambush, IAC, Leadership in Science Club, Junior Leadership, NHS, Musical, and First United Methodist Youth Group.

In her spare time she enjoys traveling, music and going to concerts. Her favorite animal is a bat.

Jovi's favorite memory at UHS is hosting sub-state volleyball. Her favorite thing about UHS is "how everyone is pretty close to each other." Her favorite subject in school is history, "because I just think it is cool and fun to learn about."

If she had a superpower, Jovi said she would like to be able to "read people's minds."

Her future plans include going to college to become a forensic psychologist.

Jovi has one sibling, Jaxon Hauser, 16. She is the daughter of Jason and Edeka Hauser.

"I admire my grandma the most because she is super awesome and very hardworking and supportive," Jovi said.

The best advice she has ever gotten  is to "fill your life with experiences instead of things."

King Candidates

Jose Tarango

Senior Jose Tarango says swimming is his favorite sport and he enjoys "spending time with friends and family. He also enjoys going on "runs".

While in high school, Jose has been involved in STUCO (Student Council), NHS, SADD, Ambush, Mary Queen Of Peace and track.

"My favorite UHS memory was my junior year - project prom," Jose said. "Being with my friends and having fun."

His favorite thing about UHS is the amount of resources available to students and opportunities.

"They provide for us now and for our future," he said, adding that his favorite class is "any math class with Mr. Buhr, because he makes math fun and easy."

If Jose could have any superpower he would like to ability to teleport, so that he could travel and go whenever he wants.

Jose's future plans include obtaining his bachelor's degree in finance and then head on to dental school for his grad degree.

"I hope to open my own clinic some day," he said.

The best advice he has ever received  is "being true to yourself will allow you to make choices that reflect your true values and desires leading to greater satisfaction. Also, don't be afraid to learn and adapt."

Jose has three siblings: Gustavo Camacho, 19; Jonathan Tarango, 14; and Aileen Tarango, 12.

He is the son of Ofelia Camacho and Ignacio Tarango.

"I hold deep admiration for my parents due to the unwavering support and strong values they have instilled in me," Jose said. "Their guidance has shaped me into the man I am today. I wouldn't be where I am today without them."

Esai Rodriguez

Senior Esai Rodriguez has been involved in football and basketball while in school. His favorite hobbies and interests include fishing, cruising, cooking, family game nights, and spending time with his siblings. 

His favorite UHS memory is when they learned to disect a frog and the "liquid splattered on Carlos." His favorite thing about UHS is "having the opportunity to be able to learn something new." Esai says his favorite subject is math and working with numbers, because it "comes easily for me."

If he could have a super power, Esai says he would like to have "sensitivity, so it would be easy to read other people's minds."

His future plans include attending Pratt Community College where he wants to study to be a lineman.

The best advice Esai has ever received is "to always be the bigger person, put God first, and always believe in myself."

Esai has two siblings: Mia Rodriguez, 21; and Apolonio Rodriguez, 19.

He is the son of Apolonio and Eva Rodriguez.

"(I admire) my family most, because they are my biggest support system and have always shown me unconditional love and security," Esai said.

Quincy Sierra

Senior Quincy Sierra has been involved in cross country, band, track and E-Sports. His hobbies include video games, running and listening to music.

His favorite UHS memory was during Geometry Class.

"When we did a group assignment revolving around 3D shapes, where we had to fill the shapes to a certain point with water," Quincy said. "The reason I chose this memory is because it showed the entirety of the class working together."

His favorite thing about UHS,  is "getting to do sports such as cross country and track." Quincy's favorite class is weights, he said, because it "prepares me for my sports and I enjoy how fun weights can be."

If he could have a superpower, Quincy said he would like to have the power of teleportation.

His future plans include attending Fort Hays State University where he wants to study to become Special Education teacher.

Quincy has three siblings: Stryker Berglund, 14; Banx Berglund, 12; and Breeze Berglund, 8.

He is the son of Whitney Teeter and Adam Sierra.

The best advice he has ever been given was from his mother, "no matter how much it may hurt, you gotta push down that wall."

When asked who he admires the most, Quincy said Caleb Corosco.

"(Caleb) has been my guide runner for cross country for the past few years," Quincy said. "He has gone out of his way to train me and help me improve at cross country."

Joel Guaderrama

Senior Joel Guaderrama has been involved in football and Uncommon Leader. In his spare time, Joel says he enjoys cutting hair.

His favorite UHS memory is playing football all four years with his friends, which goes right along with his favorite thing about UHS - "hanging out with all my friends." Joel's favorite subject in school is English, "because it is so laid back."

If he had a super power, Joel says he would like to have the power to be able to  fly.

His future plans include going to barber school in Wichita.

Joel has two siblings: Katherine, 22; and Marisol, 16.

He is the son of Yuri Guaderrama.

"I admire my mom the most, because she is a good role model and she's always there for me," Joel said.

The best advice Joel has ever been given was "not to slack off" during his freshman year.
