Interviews To Begin For Improvements At USD 214

USD 214 Board of Education members gathered Thursday, February 2 for a special session.

New business and the purpose for the special meeting included opening the floor to public commentary regarding Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) per the “Alternative Project Delivery Building Construction Procurement Act”.

The construction involves repairs and upgrades to facilities within USD 214. No comment was provided by the public.

In addition, board members discussed the timeline and approach for CMAR interviews with potential companies.

Superintendent Cory Burton weighed in on the gravity of selection by stating, “This is going to be, potentially, a partnership that’s going to last a few years, hopefully.”

Burton also explained to board members the importance of comfortability with each candidate. Members discussed whether to leave interviews to the board or create a committee to perform interviews and deliver a final recommendation. An interview committee would consist of around eight individuals, including three board members and a couple members of the bond committee.

The conversation regarding the interview process highlighted a time commitment. Approximately, each interview will take an hour, with an additional hour to discuss and rank applicants. Ultimately, BOE members decided to leave the interview process to the board.

Pending confirmation from absent members, the interview process is projected to be Tuesday, February 21. It is not decided whether it will be open or closed to the public.

This special meeting was called to order by Nichole Winner in place of President Clay Scott, who participated via telephone. Vice President Ron Smith was absent along with Jamie Kratzer.

The next board meeting will be from 7-8 p.m., Monday, February 13 at Kepley Middle School.
