John Thomas Spencer (Tom) of Johnson City, Kansas, was born on July 17, 1966, in Meade, Kansas, to John Harrison Spencer and Clara Pauline (Chase) Spencer. Tom passed away on September 29, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a short battle with health issues. Tom grew up in Kismet, Kansas. As an adult, he lived in Plains, Kinsley, and Johnson, Kansas. He worked at the Hardware Store/Lumberyard in Johnson for 23 years serving his community.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, John Spencer; mother, Pauline Spencer; brothers, Donny, Dick, and Jack Spencer; sisters, Susan Spencer, Wilma Spence and Wanda Smith; and nephew, David Erik Spencer.
Surviving Tom are his son, Aaron Spencer, of Arkansas City, Kansas; granddaughter, Acacia Haze Spencer; and brother, David Spencer, of Yukon, Oklahoma. Also surviving Tom are his nephews: Tyler Spencer, his wife Sherri, and children Laiken and Harper Spencer of Yukon, Oklahoma; Cody Spencer, his wife Mercadie, and children Gracie and Graham Spencer of Grandview, Texas; and Richard Spencer and children Charles and Josslin Spencer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his nieces: Jennifer Kincaid, her partner Chris Patrick, and child Jacob Kincaid of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Casey Little, Alex Little, and children Kadin Spencer, Tiana Blevins, Addison Spencer, and Averie Little of Salina, Kansas.
Funeral service for Tom will be held at Johnson First United Methodist Church, 202 S. Nipp St Johnson, KS 67855 at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2026, with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
