Some seniors this year at Ulysses High School participated in the last 2022-2023 Grant County Chamber UHS Junior Leadership session, which took place May 10, 2023.

The theme for the day was "Entrepreneurship, Aviation, and Agriculture."

"The students began the day at The Movies Ulysses," according to a spokesperson for the class. " Lindakay Dudley Velasquez shared her knowledge of the film industry and how the technology has changed over the years, which included getting to check out some of the old projectors and film strips."

The class then made their way to a classroom at Pioneer Communications.

"John Nickel presented a very interactive session that involved many student debates over ethical situations, which really made the kids think and got them fired up!," the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, Alejandro's Restaurant in Ulysses provided a "delicious lunch", which was sponsored by Skyland Grain.

The afternoon session took place at North Star Aviation, Inc., and was hosted by Steve Rice and Samantha Rice.

"Steve gave a great presentation about their world-renowned aviation business that is located right here in Ulysses!," the spokesperson said. "The students also loved the chance to climb into one of the planes!"

The last session of the day was provided by Aaron Murphy and Daron Cowan of Skyland Grain, where students were given the chance to drive a spray simulator.

"What an experience!," the spokesperson commented. "We are so thankful to members of our community who took time out of their day to share their knowledge and experiences with the students."

A lot of helping hands made the day possible.

"A big thank you to Alberta Helmle and USD 214 for providing transportation, and Marieta Hauser and Robin J Leonard for working to keep this program going," the spokesperson said. "Although we were missing a few due to semester finals, we still had another successful day! Can't wait to see what great things these students accomplish as UHS Seniors!"
