Kenneth W. Stephenson

Kenneth W. Stephenson, 68, died Sunday, March 5, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City, Kans.

He was born June 24, 1954, at Ft. Scott, Kans., the son of Loy Asher and Esther Lorraine (Weaver) Stephenson.  

He attended school in Oakley, Kans., where he was part of two state titles in cross country and remained an avid runner later in life.  

He worked for Tarbert Construction and later for Kan Tex Feeders for 14 years, both in Ulysses. He moved to Dodge City several years ago.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dodge City and participated in Special Olympics where he ran the mile.  He enjoyed putting models together, especially model airplanes.  He always wanted to stay busy doing something.

Survivors include: his mother, Dodge City; a brother, Larry Stephenson and wife, Pam, Dodge City; sister, Sherry Kirby and husband, Ronald, Hugo, Colo.; four nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, uncles, aunts and grandparents.

A private family graveside service will take place at a later date at the Riley Memorial Cemetery in Chautauqua County, Kans.  

There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.

The family suggests memorials to Special Olympics in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS, 67801.
