The Ulysses High School varsity tennis team traveled to Colby on Saturday, Sept. 5, to compete in a six-team tournament, finishing third overall as a team.
The Lady Tigers had several strong finishes throughout the tournament. Teagan Deyoe and Talia Flores took first place in No. 1 doubles. Corley McCormick finished third in No. 1 singles, while Jayleen Casas placed third in No. 2 singles.
Peyton Peter and Gabby Jaquez were competing in No. 2 doubles and had a 2-0 record before an injury forced the pair to withdraw from the tournament.
Despite being down one team before entering bracket play, the Lady Tigers were still able to finish third overall.
The team continues to focus on two principles, “Grace and Grind.” Head Coach Andy Cole and Assistant Coach Lauryn Payne said the Lady Tigers showed both throughout the tournament by battling through tough matches, staying focused and competing at a high level.
Cole and Payne were happy with the progress they saw and said the team will continue to improve and grow throughout the season.
